Discover the intersection of art and emerging quantum technologies through Studio Quantum, an international events and artist-in-residence programme by the Goethe-Institut. This initiative delves into cultural, ethical, and ecological aspects surrounding the impact of quantum technologies, encompassing residencies, events, and a project showcase.
Overview: Studio Quantum explores the profound questions arising from the influence of quantum technologies on sustainability, climate change, the relationship between quantum technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as data security and encryption.
Residency Locations: Open to artists in Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Nigeria, India (States of Karnataka and Kerala), and South Africa. One artist will be selected from each location to embark on a transformative artistic journey.
Residency Details: During the 2024 residencies, artists will travel to a different location, incorporating or creating work using quantum technologies accessed via the cloud. The programme encourages artists to explore new artistic production techniques enabled by quantum technologies.
About Goethe Institut: The Goethe-Institut, the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, actively promotes German studies abroad and fosters international cultural exchange.
Benefits:
- Participate in a tutorial with global experts in both cultural and quantum technology sectors.
- Independently arrange meetings or calls with technology, research, and cultural experts during the residency.
- Present work at a Goethe-Institut event during the residency.
- Receive a production budget of up to 3000 EUR, covering travel costs, accommodation, and an honorarium.
- Travel costs are covered based on distance traveled.
Qualification Criteria: Artists applying should:
- Demonstrate an interest in technology and innovation through previous work.
- Be established in their artistic practice.
- Be motivated to work with experts and partners in cultural, educational, and tech sectors.
- Contribute to a new global network of experts, cultural partners, scientists, and artists.
- Proficiency in English (C1+).

- 12.01.2024 – 11.02.2024: Open Call
- 19.02. – 17.03.2024: Jury reviews applications
- 18.03 – 28.03.2024: Artists offered residencies, acceptance until 28.03.2024
