The University of British Columbia (UBC) is currently accepting applications for the 2025 Public Scholars Award, designed to support doctoral students whose research aims to benefit the public good. This initiative fosters connections and community among scholars dedicated to integrating their academic work with broader societal impacts.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Enrollment: Open to UBC Vancouver doctoral students (PhD, EdD, DMA) and UBC Okanagan doctoral students in years 1-5.

  • Duration of Study: Applicants should have completed no more than 48 months of doctoral study as of August 31, 2025. Those in their 6th year (48 to 60 months) may be considered under exceptional circumstances.

  • Registration: Must be registered in a UBC doctoral program by September 1, 2025.

Award Details:

  • Funding: Up to $10,000 per year, renewable for a second year, totaling up to $20,000 per student.

  • Usage: Funds can be allocated towards a research allowance (including professional development or travel relevant to the scholarly work) or as a student stipend, especially if current funding sources do not support alternative projects.

Application Process:

  1. Information Sessions: Attend the general information session scheduled for Monday, March 24, 2025, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Registration is available on the UBC Graduate School website.

  2. Application Forms: Download the following documents from the UBC Graduate School’s awards page:

    • PSI Fellowship Application Instructions 2025-2026

  3. Document Preparation: Complete the application form, ensuring it is saved as a PDF named “LastName_FirstName_PSI.” Prepare your Canadian Common CV and obtain a mandatory letter of support from your supervisor. Optional letters from collaborators can also be included.

  4. Submission: Upload the completed application form, CV, and support letters as a single PDF file through the application portal on the UBC Graduate School’s awards page.

Deadline: Applications must be submitted by May 16, 2025.
