The University of Guelph in Canada is offering a fully funded scholarship opportunity for postgraduate students to join its Dry Bean Breeding & Computational Biology Lab. This scholarship supports international students pursuing a Master’s degree in areas related to plant genomics, epigenetics, and bioinformatics.

Successful applicants will receive full financial support, including tuition fees and a living stipend, and benefit from hands-on research experience and career development support.

Scholarship Benefits

  • ✔️ Full tuition coverage

  • ✔️ Monthly living stipend

  • ✔️ Research assistantship in a leading Canadian agricultural research lab

  • ✔️ Collaboration with the University of Toronto Scarborough

  • ✔️ Access to modern genomics and phenotyping technologies

  • ✔️ Opportunity to contribute to impactful publications in food security

Research Focus

Selected candidates will work on a groundbreaking research project using multi-omics approaches—such as genomics, epigenomics, and hyperspectral imaging—to study seed coat color stability and darkening in cranberry and pinto beans. This research aims to improve the market value and shelf-life of dry beans by identifying genetic markers that support the development of non-darkening varieties.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics, Plant Science, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or related fields

  • Demonstrate interest and/or experience in plant genomics and bioinformatics

  • Be familiar with genomic and methylome analysis tools (e.g., GWAS, EWAS)

  • Possess strong analytical, writing, and communication skills

  • Be able to work independently and in a collaborative team environment

Required Documents

To apply, candidates should prepare and submit the following:

  • ✅ Cover Letter (expressing interest in seed coat color research)

  • ✅ Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • ✅ Contact information for three academic references
