Southern Illinois University (SIU) is offering a fully funded graduate assistantship for international students commencing in Fall 2025. This opportunity provides a $25,000 annual stipend, full tuition waiver, and health insurance. The selected candidate will engage in a research project focusing on assessing white-tailed deer density across various landscapes in Illinois. The project is a collaboration with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and will be supervised by Dr. Guillaume Bastille-Rousseau and Dr. Brent Pease at SIU’s Carbondale campus.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s applicants) or Master’s degree (for PhD applicants) in Ecology, Wildlife Ecology, Biology, or a closely related field.
- Strong academic record.
- Excellent quantitative skills, with experience in R and ArcGIS/Pro software.
- Desirable experience includes working with camera trap data, conducting road surveys, or operating UAVs.
- Knowledge of spatial ecology.
- Ability to perform fieldwork.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a demonstrated ability or potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
- Motivation and a strong work ethic.
