The Hyundai Motor Group Scholarship at SOAS University of London is designed to support African students pursuing postgraduate studies, aiming to cultivate experts dedicated to sustainable development in Africa.

Scholarship Details:

  • Number of Scholarships: Five scholarships are available for the 2025/26 academic year—four for master’s programs and one for a PhD program.​

  • Financial Support:

    • Master’s Students: The scholarship covers full tuition fees. If the tuition is less than £27,730, the remaining amount is provided as a stipend for living expenses.​

    • PhD Students: The award includes tuition fees for three years of full-time study, the writing-up fee for the fourth year, and an annual stipend of £22,780, paid in termly installments.

  • Additional Benefits: Scholars will have access to Hyundai-led networking events and seminars, opportunities for post-study alumni engagement, and the option to apply for a Junior Internship Program at SOAS.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Nationality and Residency: Applicants must be African nationals residing in Africa.​

  • Academic Qualifications:

    • Master’s Applicants: Should possess or expect to be awarded an international equivalent to a first-class honors degree from a UK university. Those with a 2:1 degree may also apply but will not be given preference.​

    • PhD Applicants: Must have or expect to receive an international equivalent to a master’s degree with distinction from a UK university. Applicants with a merit may apply but will not be given preference.

  • Admission Status: Applicants must have applied to SOAS for a program starting in the 2025/26 academic year. An offer of admission is not required by the scholarship deadline.​

  • English Language Proficiency: Applicants must meet the English language requirements of their offer of admission. The scholarship does not cover funding for pre-sessional courses.

Application Process:

  1. Apply to SOAS: Submit an application for your chosen master’s or PhD program. Complete applications can take up to 4 weeks to process, so apply early.​

  2. Scholarship Application: Complete the online scholarship application form by 12:00 pm (midday) UK local time on April 25, 2025.

Selection Process:

Applications will be assessed based on academic merit, references, and personal statements. Candidates must have an unconditional offer by the time the Scholarship Panel meets. The selection process is expected to conclude in June 2025, with successful candidates contacted first.
