Eligibility Requirements:

For Current PhD Students:

  • Must be enrolled full-time in a PhD program at a university in Africa.
  • Should be early in their PhD studies (not beyond the first year).
  • Pursuing a PhD in Computer Science or related areas.
  • Must remain enrolled for the duration of the Fellowship.
  • Google employees and their family members are not eligible.
  • Recipients of another corporate fellowship are not eligible.

For Current Undergraduate/Master’s Students and Professionals:

  • Must join a full-time PhD program at a university in Africa within the calendar year of the award.
  • Undergraduate or Master’s students should be enrolled full-time at an African university; professionals must be affiliated with an organization registered in Africa.
  • The Fellowship award is contingent upon gaining admission to a full-time PhD program in Computer Science or related areas within the award year.
  • Google employees and their family members are not eligible.

Required Documents:

  • Resume with links to website and publications (if available).
  • Academic transcripts from the first year/semester of the Bachelor’s degree to date.
  • Research proposal (maximum 3 pages, excluding references).
  • 2-3 letters of recommendation (at least one from the thesis advisor for current PhD students).
  • Short (one-page) resume of the student’s PhD program advisor.
  • Applicant’s essay response (350-word limit) addressing the impact of the scholarship on their education and any circumstances affecting their need for the scholarship.

  2. Select your country (of study) and proceed to the fellowship application.
  3. Use the submission forms to submit your application and upload all required documents.

Important Notes:

  • Students from Africa, America, Canada, Australia, and Europe cannot apply directly to the program; they must be nominated by an eligible university during the application period.
  • Ensure all application materials are in English.
