The escalating insecurity in certain regions of the country has led the National Examinations Council (NECO) to cancel its planned 2024 staff promotion examination, initially set for Minna, Niger State. The decision was influenced by the intervention of the House of Representatives, which requested the suspension of the examination due to concerns about security.
A statement issued by Azeez Sani, the acting director of the Directorate of Information and Digital Communication at NECO, confirmed the indefinite deferral of the examination, which was originally slated for February 14 and 15, 2024. The postponement was made in accordance with a directive from the House of Representatives’ Committee on Basic Examination Bodies, as detailed in a letter dated February 9, 2024, and signed by the committee’s chairman, Oboku Abonsizibe Oforji.
Consequently, NECO staff members earmarked for promotion in 2024 must understand that the examination is now indefinitely suspended
