The Mastercard Foundation, in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU), offers fully funded scholarships for young African professionals to pursue master’s degrees in various programs. The scholarship covers all expenses, including tuition, accommodation, visa fees, flights, books, meals, and living costs. Additionally, it provides for application fees and English proficiency exams.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be considered for the Mastercard Scholarship at ASU, applicants must:
- Academic Qualifications: Meet the academic requirements for their chosen degree program, including English proficiency.
- Citizenship: Be a citizen of an African country.
- Age: Be between 18 and 33 years old by the application deadline.
- Leadership and Service: Demonstrate a history of ethical leadership and community engagement.
- Academic Excellence: Show outstanding academic performance and have ambitions that surpass their financial means.
- Educational Background: Have earned an undergraduate degree by July 2025.
- Graduate Studies: Not have started or completed another graduate or master’s degree before August 2025.
- Residency Requirement: Be able to reside in Phoenix, Arizona, for the program’s duration.

- MS Civil, Environmental & Sustainable Engineering
- MS Clean Energy Systems
- MS Data Science, Analytics, and Engineering
- MS Modern Energy Production and Sustainable Use
Application Process:
- Scholarship Application: Begin by applying for the scholarship. If selected, assistance will be provided for the ASU admission process.
- Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed via video or phone in November 2024.
- Final Decisions: Notifications will be sent by late January 2025.
- Program Commencement: Successful applicants will start their studies in Phoenix, Arizona, in August 2025.
