The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program is designed to cultivate a pool of technical talent, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goal of creating 2 million digital jobs by 2025. This initiative is part of the Renewed Hope agenda, aiming to fortify Nigeria’s technical workforce to drive the digital economy and establish Nigeria as a net exporter of talent. The first phase, in partnership with NITDA, involves multiple stakeholders such as fellows, training providers, partners, and placement organizations.
The initial phase of the 3MTT program will concentrate on twelve technical skills:
- Software Development
- UI/UX Design
- Data Analysis & Visualisation
- Quality Assurance
- Product Management
- Data Science
- Animation
- AI / Machine Learning
- Cybersecurity
- Game Development
- Cloud Computing
- Dev Ops
The program is structured using a 1-10-100 model, starting with training 1% of the three million individuals in three months, followed by 10% over a defined period, and then scaling to 100%. This approach aims to efficiently increase digital literacy to 70% by the end of 2027. The 3MTT portal, hosted by NITDA, facilitates the application process, with detailed information on courses, the application process for trainers, and the involvement of partners in supporting the program 3.
Applicants interested in the program must have a valid email address and can apply by visiting the 3MTT website, selecting a training program, and submitting the application form. There is no fee required for training providers or fellows, and organizations without a physical facility can still apply, provided they have access to a facility where required 4.
The 3MTT program is a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s technical skill base, making the country more competitive in training technical talent and positioning it as a leader in the digital economy. By focusing on key skills critical to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the program aims to equip Nigerians with the necessary skills to be globally competitive and contribute significantly to the digital economy 5.
