The African Leadership Centre (ALC) is delighted to invite applications for the Peace, Security & Development Fellowships for the academic year 2024/2025.

About ALC: Established over a decade ago, the ALC has been pivotal in shaping the future generation of African leaders, fostering talent and ideas to drive the transformation of African societies. With locations in Nairobi, Kenya, and King’s College London, UK, the ALC aims to influence academic, research, and policy discussions on leadership, peace, security & development in Africa and globally.

ALC Fellowship Programs: The fellowship programs aim to produce high-performing graduates with leadership qualities and skills. Fellows engage in cutting-edge research on peace, security, and development, actively participating in institutional, national, and regional networks to mentor the next generation of African academics.

Core Values: Guided by core values, the ALC emphasizes African-led processes of change, excellence, independent thinking, diversity, recognition of youth agency, and integrity.

Fellowship Categories:

  1. Fellowships for African Scholars in Peace Security and Development (degree awarding):
    • For young African scholars interested in research and academic careers in peace, security, and development.
    • An eighteen-month program including academic research, writing, policy analysis, and a six-month attachment to an African University, Regional Organization, or Centre of Excellence in Africa.

  2. Fellowships for African Women in Leadership and Peacebuilding (degree awarding):
    • For young African women, particularly from conflict-affected contexts.
    • Includes post-graduate study at King’s College London on the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding program and a tailored mentoring program.

Fellowships for African Women in Peace, Security and Development (non-degree awarding):

    • For young African women in early career stages seeking to deepen knowledge and experience.
    • A residential program based at the ALC in Nairobi, Kenya.

Application Process:

  • Applications for Project Requests opened on January 4, 2024, and close on March 4, 2024, at 11:59 PM EST.
