The application period for the 2025 Australia Awards Scholarships is now open. These scholarships are esteemed international awards granted by the Australian Government to emerging leaders from developing nations. The program aims to equip recipients with the knowledge and skills needed to effect change and foster lasting connections between their countries and Australia through academic pursuits and research. Candidates are evaluated based on their professionalism, personal attributes, academic abilities, and potential to address development issues in their home countries. Encouragement is extended to female applicants, individuals with disabilities, and other marginalized groups to apply.
The focus areas for the current application round include climate change, agriculture and food security, mining and energy, foreign policy and international security, and gender, disability, and social inclusion. Eligible applicants from African countries can apply for a Master’s degree at an Australian tertiary institution starting in 2025.
Additional eligibility criteria for candidates from eligible African countries include:
- Age: At least 25 years old by February 1, 2025.
- Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience relevant to the field of study.
- Citizenship: Must be a citizen of one of the eligible African countries and residing in their country of citizenship, unless working for an African Regional Organization or on a diplomatic mission for their home country.
- Degree Status: Not currently enrolled or undertaking a Master’s degree or equivalent. Must hold an undergraduate degree equivalent to an Australian undergraduate degree.
- No Previous Long-Term Australia Award: Applicants must not have previously received a long-term Australia Award.
- Language Proficiency: Must achieve a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, with no individual band score below 6.0, or an equivalent TOEFL or PTE Academic score. Exceptions apply for applicants whose first language is English and whose education was conducted in English.
Applications are invited from all suitable candidates, with a particular emphasis on women, individuals with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.
Australia Awards benefits
Australia Awards scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian education institution, including any preparatory training. Scholarship recipients will receive the following:
- return air travel
- a one-off establishment allowance on arrival
- full tuition fees
- contribution to living expenses
- introductory academic program
- overseas student health cover for the duration of the scholarship
- supplementary academic support
- fieldwork allowance for research students and master by coursework which has a compulsory fieldwork component.
